‘Dirty Laundry’ is an exploration of the facets of womanhood and the inner girl, airing our secrets and the layers of femininity. It tells the story of a fight between softness and sternness, the playful child within and the facade of toughness that surrounds the modern-day girl. Taking inspiration from working women, stripes and tartan nod to the women’s land army and the Scottish Herring Lassies with their ‘sharp tongues and sharp knives’. This is paired with colourful mesh tights, bodysuits and the brooches styled throughout which belonged to my Grandmothers’. These are a random assortment of different colourful gems and shapes that gave the girl in me creative freedom and reminded me of the first joys of playing in mums forbidden jewellery boxes, hinting to the playful side that never leaves us despite the external pressures of life.
