My project introduces the Chatham Exploration Hub and proposes an observatory and planetarium space. Its objectives are to foster lifelong learning, enrich scientific literacy, and inspire the next generation of explorers, scholars, and environmental stewards. The historical connection between Chatham and the cosmos spans epochs, with observations of constellations aiding navigation and understanding tidal patterns. These historical insights offer valuable perspectives for forecasting the future.

Moreover, proactive preparation for Chatham’s future is paramount. Our educational sessions and workshops target secondary students, aiming to cultivate scientific literacy and ignite their passion for exploration and discovery. To facilitate this, dedicated study areas for teenagers will be provided to foster a conducive learning environment. One of the project’s challenges involves repurposing the planetarium into a multipurpose hall for various events, necessitating flexible space utilisation. Collaboration with the Chatham community will be pivotal in realising this vision while ensuring sustainable operations.

To enhance the immersive experience, seating arrangements within the planetarium and observatory will be crafted from recycled sea stones, utilising shell waste.
