DO YOU WANT ME TO HATE YOU?

The work explores my relationship with my mental health and compulsive avoidant behaviour and the mythic quality of wellness. I explore the factors that influence behaviours like, family and upbringing, womanhood and patriarchy and the feeling of exposure that comes with being emotionally unwell. I used the visual language of the myth of Atlantis to interpret ideas of wellness existing halfway in-between reality and fiction.

I researched the idea of the white column as symbolic of Atlantis and its failings and connected it to old telephone poles found on everyday streets. The telephone poles covered in stickers and posters and flowers, holding people’s worst memories of the past for the general public to see, missing pets and memorials as they get worn away by wind, rain, and time.
