I am communicating that relationships with Grandmas are something we keep close to us, like a Handkerchief. Handkerchiefs are used to comfort small issues, which is what Grandmas sometimes do too. All relationships with Grandmas are unique: some are close and intimate whereas others are non-existent. The Handkerchief is representative of Grandchildren confiding in their Grandmas, creating a bridge between the obsolete objects from our Grandma’s time with the language of contemporary Grandchildren.
