During my time at Kingston, I have most enjoyed exploring and adapting characters, and finding my own insights about them and their narratives through illustration and research. So far, I have tended towards well known figures from folklore and dark fairy-tales such as Red Riding Hood, Swan Lake, and for my largest project, Rusalka from Czech folklore (which I will be featuring in the shows).
I have most often worked in watercolour and drawing, which has helped me create an ephemeral quality to figures in my work, which can seem as if they are in a liminal state of transforming, fading or appearing, giving a sense of uncertainty and the uncanny. I enjoy experimenting with creating colour and atmosphere to communicate certain emotions.
