The belongings that we leave behind mark our belonging to a place.

I have designed a museum cabinet set in the year 3023, which encases artefacts from 2023. The objects were excavated by future archaeologists from the French mountain, Mont Blanc, where the plastics were preserved in a cool and dark climate. Many of our belongings from today would have degraded in a 1000 years’ time. Therefore, these found artefacts provide the archaeologists with a rare insight into how the citizens of 2023 belonged to the environment around them. Yet many of the objects are misinterpreted due to the archaeologist’s own preconceptions of the past.

My museum cabinet intention is to make us reflect upon the subconscious marks we make in a space. From plastic packaging to cosmetic products, we are constantly leaving behind footprints of artefacts, which reflects who we are and the lifestyle we live.
