Skin is vital at forming a protective barrier between the external world and internal body. My work explores the collapse of this barrier as a reflection of the ways in which the modern world is at conflict with our biology, causing damage to the human body and psyche. In my life size sculpture of an abstracted body suspended in the air, the boundaries between exterior and interior body are lost and blurred. On closer inspection the skeletal forms are distorted and the whole sculpture appears covered in skin. Do we play a role in this evolutionary mismatch? In my performance piece I question whether we are even conscious of it or are we merely foetuses in the womb of nature, unconscious and helpless as natural biology derails beyond our control?
