The Family of The ‘Unhinged’

This collection is the birth of a longstanding fascination with motherhood, focusing on the act of conception, pregnancy, birth and mothering. Family of the ‘unhinged’ exposes the current and past roles that women hold in families and frames a dystopian world in which these six characters thrive despite the power that men hold over them. This body of work takes reference from arthouse films and literature such as ‘The Holy Mountain’ by Alejandro Jodorowsky and Margaret Atwood’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, exploring cults, religion, royalty and power dynamics. Each character has a significant part to play in the portrayal of this army of women.
