This project started off as an exploration into how the way we interact with objects can be influenced by texture. Through researching, I discovered the area of gastrophysics, which is the combination of gastronomy and psychophysics – gastronomy being the knowledge and understanding of all that relates to man as he eats, and psychophysics being the branch of psychology that deals with the relations between physical stimuli and mental phenomena.

Some of the outcomes of this study ended up inspiring my designs for this collection, guiding the final choices of colour and texture. The collection’s visual language is designed to encourage interaction between the end user and the products by allowing the plates and bowls to be arranged in multiple ways when laying out the food.

One of the main goals of this project is educating the public on ways they could enhance their eating experience and have a healthier relationship with food. Each of the pieces has a different “meaning” behind it and comes with a booklet with facts from gastrophysics that inspired its design but also recommendations for the food that can be served in/on it.
