My creative process revolves around scavenging as well as recording and recreating my immediate environment, whether that be a physical or digital one. The concept of creating something new from what has been abandoned and is already there drives me to make garments from discarded fabrics, sculpture out of rubble from skips, disused phones and monitors as screens, found fusing and wiring for installation, dismantled cupboards as canvases etc. I am interested in the dichotomy between the indifferent strictness of technology and the freedom and randomness of nature, and how the two interact with each other. Recently I created a 90cm x 60cm laser engraving on MDF of the landscape of 2b2t’s ‘spawn region’, the centre of Minecraft’s oldest anarchy server. Installed onto two pieces of plywood and accompanied by a 10 minute looping soundscape made from layered and mixed found audio acquired during ethnographic research into alienation online. My work blurs the line between natural material exploration, and accelerationist hyper digital work, by combining the two I like to explore how they interact, and what the future holds for our love of tech, and our yearning to return to a more primitive, nature-centric way of living.
