Creatures of habit is a project focusing on our nervous repetitive habits. For my outcome I have made a stop motion animation, using masking fluid and acrylic paint, which throughout the animation is picked away to reveal a series of patterns along with language. I wanted to communicate how habits are a form of comfort, a distraction and how we cope with uncertain situations. Throughout the animation a range of abstract patterns are picked away showing habits through shapes, motion, repetition and speed. Alongside of my animation I have also made a set of interactive cards. Called “calm cards”, the set of cards are picked away by the viewer to reveal the patterns as seen in the animation. The colourful patterns are a way we can perform our nervous habits like picking and scratching without damaging ourselves. The cards are a way the viewer can interact and understand the material used within the animation.
