My final project explores the world of suspension piercing as a spiritual practice and an art form. I have been exploring controversial and misunderstood subcultures and wanted to show the beauty within the art of human suspension, which is seen as a barbaric and disturbing practice to most people. My research on suspension lead me to look at tension and internal stress within the body. I looked at strait jackets and torture positions as references on suspension within the frame of the human body, and my final design is inspired by the fastenings and mechanics of strait jackets. My final images have a serene and ethereal nature, to represent the euphoria that one experiences when being suspended by their skin.

My research and testing includes looking at the mechanics of strait jackets, testing internal stress with torture positions, the making of the sleeves of my garment and my final garment try on.
