‘Many Mouths Make A Monologue’ (MMMAM) maps the uncertainty of having a mixed heritage from both a personal and collective perspective. Many mouths informed and developed my own (internal) monologue and now I hope that my monologue’s journey can help others not feel alone in the questions they have about their mixed identity.

The aim of this piece is to take you along the journey that I have been on predominantly for the past 8 weeks, in which I have been attempting to better understand my mixed identity and heritage both through the development of my own internal monologue and through the powerful, vulnerable answers that so many people shared and that I am so grateful for.

It’s a two toned, two-part piece composed of a monologue of questions and an accompanying appendix of answers. I wanted to create a piece that opens the conversation about the experience of being mixed race, the vulnerabilities, the hesitancies and the minefield of uncertainties, not just the colour of our skin, but the thoughts behind it.
