I have designed and made 3 garments which interact together in a short film, portraying a narrative inspired by Irish folklore; the story of Bean-nighe women. Exploring questions regarding my grandma and dad’s anxiety surrounding their health allowed me to reflect on my own personal journey with health anxiety. Visiting Ireland opened my eyes and mind massively to the teachings surrounding medicine and healing, which are ingrained in Irish tradition, passed down through generations. Focusing on my grandma’s Irish heritage, and how this could have impacted her, lead me to a gold mine of thousands of years worth of beliefs, superstitions and ideologies. I spoke to over 20 people in Ireland, and everybody had their own story of a healing spot their granny or grandpa had taken them to, or a cure their mum or dad had taught them.
