From the beginning of my research, I learnt that there is no limit to who can identify themselves as a craftsperson. I investigated different ways that you can either gain the right to call yourself a craftsperson or a way in which you can show it.

With this in mind, I looked into various things such as introducing a certificate that you get when you pass your ‘test’ confirming you are a qualified craftsperson. As well this, I looked into how you can show you’re a highly skilled craftsperson without saying it or having to prove yourself. This took me towards toolboxes and the complexity of joinery.

In order to be able to complete a well-executed joint, the person has to have a high skill. In addition, to this I thought about what craftspeople carry around most often which brought me to a tool box.

For my final I made a chisel box for a single chisel. The box was made using dovetail joints which I learnt is essential to know when you are a carpenter. Therefore this shows people that see his chisel box, that he is a highly skilled carpenter that deserves the title craftsperson.

For my final piece I have made a chisel box which is made using complex carpentry techniques such as dovetail joint. This is because it shows a high quality craftsperson through the objects they have made to keep their tools in.
