“Insert £1 for Progress”
I created an electronically controlled puppet theatre with the help of Sebastian from HackSpace. The curtain will open when a £1 coin is inserted into the coin machine, anticlimatically revealing a dingy mirror. The piece is a commentary on the privatised and marketized fine art world that students are moving into, because how can artists hope to criticise the state of the world within a market leading gentrification and art-washing? It is an ironic mimicry of galleries that asks the viewer to question their complicity in upholding the systems they hope to topple.
