My research focuses on the storytelling of themes surrounding women’s struggles within society that resonate with my own experiences, with the hope to produce unique bodies of work that provoke uncomfortable conversations. Consistently drawn to the female form, I use a combination of tailoring and flou to translate a strong yet fragile multifaceted femininity.

My graduate collection, ‘Warped Control SS23’ is a subjective response that focuses on the wider societal issue of domestic abuse in conjunction with mental health. Reflecting the impact traumatic events have on the functionality of daily life. A collection derived by physical descriptives and ever-changing moods/ emotions to influence silhouettes and techniques.

Such as:

Confused = Dishevelled

Vulnerable = Transparent

Submissive = Constricted

Angry = Trapped

Dismal = Disconnected

Liberated = Released

A muted colour palette has also been chosen to reflect the subtlety that domestic abuse has, whether this be the intensity of the abuse itself, or how difficult it can be to be aware of it personally or as an outsider.

Whilst aiming to create progressive dialog, I’ve projected hope for domestic abuse survivors by showcasing the evolution of my final collection as a metaphor of personal growth and development, depicting that it’s possible to evolve as a person following on from traumatic events.

Warped Control SS23, is a considered collection, meticulously designed to project my own personal experiences surrounding domestic abuse and the aftermath it has on mental health. Storytelling through silhouette, colour and fabrication, a mood is presented to depict the subtlety, yet damaging reality domestic abuse has on survivors.
