For my final major project, I have made a collection of place settings to represent a few occasions we dine at. These placemats are designed to highlight the range of etiquette rules we follow for each occasion, from a fancy dinner with your colleagues to a Mcdonald’s breakfast. I believe that we have forgotten what we value most when dining. We dine to not only enjoy a meal but to be in the presence of culture, company, and conversation. Recently it seems that we eat meals quickly and with the only intention to sustain our hunger for a few hours.

In this project, I want to communicate how we can practice dining during our fleeting lunch breaks. My research found that 7 million Brits buy a people deal every day at 1:00 pm. This demonstrates how we all share the same eating routines and habits. Unconsciously we are all members of a national dinner party.

I have found that it is the social aspect of meals that we value the most and it is for this reason that we dine.
