This project is a visual exploration of Chinese ancient poetry from the perspective of metaphoric imagery language. Rui challenges the conventional illustrative approach to poetry imageries and aims to visualize how metaphors occur in imagery at a linguistic cognitive level. Similarities between multiple imageries happen simultaneously, echo with each other, and form symmetrical structures literally. As the antithesis of Chinese poetry is extremely difficult to translate into another language, this work allows non-Chinese speakers to experience some of the original beauty of Chinese poetry without requiring an understanding of the Chinese language.

Several books with undefined, multiple reading sequences are created to allow the audience to find similarities between visuals randomly. By discovering hidden linkages between graphical characters, audiences are encouraged to build their own imagination of metaphoric imagery structures of poetry.
