It is free, but freedom can also be a dead end.

“A Day Outside the Fishbowl” is a story about Wei Yun and her mother.

During her freshman summer break, Wei returned home. Since her parents’ divorce many years ago, Wei Yun had been living with her mother, Wang Li. At this time, both Wei Yun and her mother were experiencing different emotions.

Wei Yun had reunited with her high school sweetheart, while Wang Li had become involved with a married man.  The story begins with Wei Yun’s return home, where she and her mother, Wang Li, prepare and share a meal using the fish they caught while fishing.

As they sit at the table for dinner, hidden scars from the past are gradually revealed in what seems like a warm everyday life, ultimately leading to a tense and unhappy dinner that ends on a sour note.
