My project topic is supermarkets. My ideas and what I wanted to communicate developed as I conducted research. I began exploring supermarkets hidden influences and the way they encourage their customers subconsciously to purchase more items then originally intended. However, I then steered my research and exploration towards how external life events impact and reflect what we buy from supermarket. I decided I wanted to communicate how life events are experiences that interrupt and even disrupt our day-to-day habitual activities, causing a substantial change and readjustment. Life events also impact our buying behaviour and change our buying habits. I have chosen a selection of life events that range in extremity and depicted the impact on our shopping choices. My final piece is presented in an animation, the animation was made from scans of food products. I think this was a good method as it allowed me to reference the movement of conveyer belts through creating blurred images. I also like how this method of scanning causes the images to seem as if they are seen from the perspective of inside a conveyor belt. I also made prints that go alongside the animation, I like how these show the varying sizes of shops.
