I have created a garment that aims to capture the dissonance between the public persona, and the private interior self within an individual. To visually manifest these waring halves, I constructed pieces that draw upon the silhouettes and composition of medieval armour. The armour represents how the ego and public personas we design for ourselves provide protection for our vulnerable true self. My piece captures the archetypical suit of armour at a moment of abstraction as it is beginning to break apart exposing the individual’s fragility. I also hyperfeminized the garment and used delicate fabric like lace to signify the frailty and inevitable breakdown of a constructed persona that strives to conceal an individual’s true character.
